Define a valuable result first
Google optimizes this campaign type toward conversion goals. Before launching, check what is recorded and whether that action matters to your business. A page visit is different from a qualified sales inquiry.
Assess whether the offer is ready
We recommend reviewing the landing page, available visuals and messages, lead handling and a budget for a meaningful test. If you already run Search campaigns, write down the additional problem the new campaign should solve.
Agree how to evaluate it
Record the starting point, review period and lead-quality criteria. Look at sales outcomes as well as tracked actions. If feedback from sales is unreliable, improve that first. No universal budget or promised return fits every business.
Search or Performance Max: what are you trying to solve?
For one clear service and specific searches, a focused Search approach is worth considering first. If the foundations are already working and you want additional reach, assess what Performance Max would add to the existing plan. Write the hypothesis before setup: which audience or sales opportunity should it help you reach? A campaign name is not a strategy. The choice depends on the offer, signals, assets and evaluation method.
Example: optimizing for the wrong action
Imagine a form records every submission attempt, including errors and duplicates. The report may show growth while sales sees the same number of real conversations. Before evaluating the campaign, separate successfully received inquiries, relevant contacts and completed sales. Keep the reporting period and counting rules consistent. This illustrates a measurement problem, rather than evidence that a particular campaign type does not work.
What to prepare before making the decision
Prepare the offer, important landing pages, available images or video, sales records and current measurement goals. Add the operating constraints: where you work, how many inquiries you can handle and when the service is available. Then agree the test scope and comparison method. If the data is not comparable with the earlier period, document the change instead of attributing the entire difference to the campaign.
Consider PMax as part of a plan. Check goals, data and materials, then agree on a controlled test.
